*Character Name(s): Gabriel Michael Coven (True Name)
*Race/Species: Human
*Gender: Male
Actual Character Age: 37
Home Territory(Place of Origin): Wellhallow, Pennsylvania
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 139 Lbs.
Physical Build: Relatively fit. He looks like he runs a lot.
*Physical Description: Gabriel can, when he wants to, look damn impressive. His hair is a dark brown, bordering on black, and maintained at a managable length. His eyebrows are thick, and his eyes are the same shade of blue as a 'blue screen of death' on a computer. His nose comes to a slight point to the right side of his face, since he busted it when he was a kid, an dhis lips are relatively thin and slightly chapped from his nibbiling on them. His skin is typical caucasian: not to fair, not to tan. His frame is lean and limber, sort of what you expect from a jogger or a runner.
His clothing depends on what he's doing. When working in his business, he puts on the air of being a very professional wizard: his hair is slicked back, and he's dressed to the nines with a lavender button up shirt, a black vest with gold buttons, a bolero tie with a gold broach, black slacks and a cloak-like indigo coat who's hem taps at his ankles. His shoes are black and well polished as well. Otherwise, however, his hair is rather shaggy, and he wears a t-shirt and jeans. However, when dealing with enemies (when he's had time to prep), he wears a similar coat as his working one, along with black gloves and his various accotriments
Personal Information/History/Background:
Gabriel grew up in a small town in Pensylvania called Wellhallow, and everything seemed relatively ideal. His dad was an accountant at a local tax place, and his mom was a high school literature teacher. They had a small house near the outskirts of town, a small yard, and a white picket fence. Growing up, Gabe didn't have any siblings or cousins to play with, and the only relative he really knew about was Grandpa Michael, or as his father liked to call him, 'That Crazy Old Coot With The Weird Shop.' Gabriel was always a bit willful and stubborn when he was a kid, and for some reason never really missed much.
As you can tell, Gabe's father didn't like Grandpa Michael at all. But Gabriel liked his grandpa, mainly because of the above weird shop, which was also on the outskirts of town. Grandpa Michael would watch Gabe while his parents were busy working or when they went out to eat, and would let him hang around his shop and look at all the interesting books and curios, as well as tell him stories that Gabe was pretty sure were all fake, since they mostly revolved around Grandpa doing weird things, like slaying monsters and defeating evil wizards, because he himself was a wizard. Gabriel, of course, humored him until he either fell asleep or it was time for his parents to pick him up.
Then, when Gabriel was about six years old, he was coming home from Grandpa's shop to find his house completely engulfed in flames, with a strange man in a long black cloak standing on the front lawn, laughing at it. Gabriel took no chances: when the paniky voice of his intuition told him to run, he ran. He ran as fast as he could back towards Grandpa's shop, but the strange man in black caught up to him and knocked him flat, breaking his nose. Gabe was pretty sure he was going to die when the stranger pulled out a long, ugly looking knife about as long as his arm.
About that time, however, the stranger was knocked back and away, caught in the chest by a blue-green bolt of something that looked like fire but moved like lightning. Scrambiling to his feet, he saw Grandpa Michael standing there at the door of his shop, brandishing a thick cane of pale wood in one hand and a handfull of that same weird blue-green fire-lightning in the other. Grandpa and the scary man faced off, the scary man launching bolts of red flame from that weird dagger, which Grandpa would swat away before retaliating with that weird blue-green stuff. The battle didn't last very long, at least, not to Gabriel, who fainted from the shock of watching what seemed impossible.
When Gabriel came to, he was in Grandpa's shop. when questioned, Grandpa revealed that indeed, he was a wizard. The scary man in black was another wizard, but one who had been made an enemy of his due to his practices. The evil wizard had tried to kill him and his daughter (Gabe's mother) in retaliation several times before, even before Gabriel's mother settled down, which was why he had set up shop near their home. Unfortunately, he didn't expect the wizard to try something quite as mundane as arson. This left Gabriel rather stunned, especcially when he found out both his parents had died in the fire. He was allowed to stay with his next of kin, his Grandpa, as his legal guardian.
After Gabriel's parents were finally buried, Gabriel approached his Grandpa with a rather odd request. He wanted to become a wizard as well. Dispite misgivings, his Grandpa agreed, and began Gabriel's apprenticeship, to run alongside his schooling. By day, Gabriel went to school like a normal kid. Afterwards, he would study not only his schoolwork, but also the various theorem that made up magic. On the weekends, he would help his Grandpa with various magical experiments, including potion making and ritual magics, from diining lost items to breaking curses. He also got to know the various things his Grandpa worked with, including his familiar, a seemingly sentient crystal named Tim.
This apprenticeship continued for years, as Gabriel went through highschool and into college. By age 21, Gabriel proved to be a formidible magician in his own right, rivaling his Grandpa in raw skill. His peers thought he was a little loopy, working in an occult shop with his Grandpa, but he didn't mind too much.
At least until Grandpa ended up in the hospital. Cancer. He had been hiding ir for several years as it had metasitsized to his other organs. As he lay on his deathbed, Gabriel listened to his Grandpa tell him the real reason behind his cancer: the evil wizard that he had foght had uttered a final curse, condemning him to a painful death. However, he intended to leave Gabriel ready for his new job as a wizard, entrusting him with not only the shop, but everything in it, as well as the secrets it possessed.
The results of this blessing was not apparent until later, when Gabriel returned to the shop to find that the bulding it had inhabited was completely bare, with only a small spool of cloth setting in front of the door with a note. The note explained about the nature of the shop: that it wasn't truly of this world, that it was nothing more than a construct that could be moved about as needed. As such, Gabriel decided it would be better to begin moving shop, setting up in a new city to ply his trade. He's been doing so until recently.
Due to the events in New York, Gabriel has decided that it's bes tto set up shop in the big city, in order to assist those who need it. He has recently emigrated to New York, and is looking for a place to set up.
*Number and Description of Weaponry and Training:
Gabriel's main offensive capabilities are his numerous evocations (see next post), which serve as his backbone when dealing with beings and entities that are more cpabable than him in physical combat. Aside from these spells, he often uses potions he's brewed, and his cane serves as an effective bludgeoning tool, s well as a talisman. If neccessary, he also carries a revolver (S&W 712 Subnose) that he's a decent shot with.
* Useful Trinkets or Items: Gabriel carries various talismans with him at all times, which serve as focuses for his evocations. These include:
- A small cloth bracelet made out of blue woolen cloth, with a silver clasp worn on his right wrist. This is a Sentimental Talisman that serves as the focus for his Defense Screen evocation.
- A bracelet made of small plates of black enamaled metal, engraved with mystical runes and symbols relating to night. What appears to be the remains of a silver bullet is set into the center. This is an Artificed Talsiman that serves as the focus for his Shadow Armor evocation.
- A silver pentacle on a thin chain, that he keeps close to his heart. This is a Sentimental Talisman that serves as the focus for his Rebuke evocation.
- A ring on his right hand, which is made up of two bands of steel twisted into a coil. This is an Artificed Talisman that serves as the focus for his Binding evocation
- A silver ring on his left hand, inset with a small amethyst and engraved with several runes. This is an Arfificed Talisman that serves as the focus for his Eldritch Blast evocation.
- A pair of leather gloves. Thin wire is looped around the glove's fingers between each joint, and around the wrist of the glove. This is an Artificed Talisman that serves as the focus for his Far Hands evocation.
- A long leather belt, inlayed with the enamaled feathers of several birds of prey. The clasp is aluminum, and is shaped to resemble a styalized eagle's head with glass beads for eyes. This is an Artificed Talisman that serves as the focus for his Featherfall evocation.
- A pair of rubber shoe insoles. They look like they've been used a great deal, and originally came from a pair of running shoes. This is an Impressed Talisman that serves as the focus for his Leap To The Clouds evocation.
- His cane, a stout cane made out of wood from a white birch that struck by lightning. This was his Grandfather's cane, an Impressed Talisman and serves as the focus for his Reflection evocation. The can can also function as a focus for his Eldritch Blast evocation and is also quite sturdy, and can be used as a club with no problem.
- A tuning fork engraved with several arcane runes along its tines, with the handle wrapped in a soft black foam. This is an Artificed Talisman that serves as a focus for his Sonic Blast evocation.

*Special Skills:
Sixth Sense (Innate) 3 - This is a catchall phrase that describes Gabriel's ability to sense supernatural phenomenon, such as active and incoming spells, supernatural objects and supernatural creatures. The more powerful the magic, the more obvious it becomes to him. This is active constantly, but unless he concentrates, it's mroe akin to a buzz in the back of his head.
Second Sight (Innate) 3 - This is the wizard's ability to actually see the world around him in spiritual terms. When used, the wizard is capable of perceiving the actual, physical makeup of magical spells, as well as the 'auras' (for lack of a better term) of supernatural creatures. Now, normally, this isn't a very good thing, since what's viewed in second sight cannot be forgotten, but it can be useful.
Soulgaze (Innate) 3 - The Soulgaze is an outgrowth of a wizard's Second Sight, but focused towards a singular person. When a wizard meets another person's eyes, the wizard can choose to Soulgaze that person, peering directly into their psyche. This can be useful, but also quite terrifying and, for the Wizard, dangerous. Not only can the person return the soulgaze and look into the Wizard's soul, but the Wizard also cannot forget what he sees.
Magic: Ritual 6, Evocation 5, Potions 5 - Gabriel is a damn good wizard, both due to natural aptitude and from his Grandfather's teachings since he was young. Although he doesn't know or remember everything, he knows several minor rituals and evocations, and is quite capable of performing major rituals and spells with time, effort and research. He's also a good potion maker, and he sells his concoctions in his shop for a small profit. (See next post for what Gabe can/can't do). However, the usage of magic is physically draining, and can render Gabriel completely exhausted and barely conscious after one to many spells.
Large Manual-Force Weaponry (Club) 2 - Gabriel's not an expert, but he knows how to swing a club so that it hurts.
Small Projectile Weaponry (Pistol) 2 - Gabriel's not an expert marksman, but he's been to the range to get his liscense and knows how to use a gun. His perferance is revolvers.

The Shop -
The final gift from his Grandfather, Gabriel's shop is, in truth, a portable extradimensional space (think Howl's Moving Castle) that's about the size of two large apartments put together. The shop is contained within what appears to be a large, door-shaped length of black cloth. When attached to an existing door and the proper rituals performed, the shop manifests within a building without taking up any of the space inside it, forming another door behind the door it was attached to. The shop itself can be accessed from the same door, but only if the door inside the shop is open. Otherwise, people can enter through the regular door and find nothing but an empty room.
The shop itself is about the size of two large apartments pressed together. the front-most room, which has the door leading ot the outside, is the shop proper. The entire area is well decorated, with deep purple carpets, many tables and shelves with various objects, potions and books on them, and a large desk set off to the side. A counter with an old percussion cash register sits near the back, guarding the doorway to the private areas. This is where Gabriel does most of his business. The shop is typically kept at a steady 75 degress farenheight, and is quite cozy.
The second half of the shop is Gabriel's living quarters. The living quarters are made up of four rooms: a small kitchen with an ice box, a wood stove and several cabinets, a small living room with a mishmash of chairs and a coffee table, a small bedroom with a large mattress, and a larger workroom, where Gabriel keeps his spellbooks, potion making equipment, ritual equipment, a perminant summoning circle enscribed on the floor, and Tim, his Grandfather's familiar, which serves as a rather sarcastic advisor.
The shop exists as a space with in the building, but that does not mean that it's immune to harm. If the building is destroyed, so is the shop. Thankfully, Gabe can simply yank down the entrance scarf from the outside and save the shop from any damage. The entire shop is also warded and dimension-anchored, to prevent anything nasty from just popping in (unless they're really nasty, in which case they can pierce the wards). Only Gabriel can take down the cloth, but anyone can open the door inside the shop.
