Shortly after the disaster of 9-11-01, the grounds of ground zero were purchased by a Smaller company called ToVaCom Enterprises.
After creating the ToVaCom Memorial fountain, depicting a dramatic representation of the firefighters who rescued countless victims, the companys stocks skyrocketed. Continued reconstruction efforts led to TVC Enterprises becoming the most powerful companies in New York. Ownership of the company, and therefore 2/3rds of the city, was transfered to Thomas James Hyper III from his father, Thomas James Hyper Jr. in the late 2030s. During this time, TJIII went on to create some of the most amazing advances in technology, including new computer chips, advanced Artificial Inteligence, and the Cybernetic Knights.
CyberKnight technology reached its current state in the early 2060s, resulting in a complete regiment of the powered armors by the end of 2067.
ToVaCom owns nearly all of NYC at this point, with less than 20 percent owned by smaller companies. The only true rival to ToVaCom Enterprises is Monolith Corporation, whose resources seem to come from nowhere...as they own little to nothing inside the confines of the US borders.
