The french café was rather calm. Owned by a french emigrant, it was Cyril's favorite spot to go for his noon break at work. Which just happened to be now, in fact.
Currently, the frenchman is sitting a small table, drinking coffee while waiting for his dinner to be served and reading some imported newspaper from France, talking about the latest news at the Élysée, notably the current president's latest hijinks. At some table in a corner, an artist due to play later this day is adjusting his guitar.

Young Jennifer is walking down the street, just another pedestrian amongst the crowd. Upon seeing the French cafe, she realizes that she hasn't had much of an opportunity to try their authentic cusine, and decides to spend her lunch hour money here.
She's currently dressed in smart blue business attire, and carrying a newspaper...or the classifieds section anyways, which has several visible markings made on it.

Cyril is still sitting at his table. Right now, he simply continues shaking his head. "Les politiques, plus ils changent, plus ils restent les mêmes..." he mutters under his breath with a bit of a smirk. Certainly, no matter where people go, the medias are always interested more in who a politician sleeps with than their ideas... With that thought, he change the page to another, noting idly the new arrival in the room. Finally, the waiter brings him his meal, to which he gives a small smile back before returning to his newspaper.

Jennifer glances over at Cyril as she recognizes the French, but it's obvious she doesn't understand a word of it. She waits for the waiter to come to her table, and she orders a light drink and lunch...a meat dish, but not one that's going to bog her down.

Cyril quickly gets onto his meal, taking his time to eat and drink his coffee whilst reading the newspapers. Quickly, when gets the time to pay for his meal, he reaches in his coat.... and a look of utter surprise immediately get painted onto his face. "Merde... ne me dites pas que je l'ai oublié..." he quickly mutters as he begins to check the rest of the pockets of his coat, his calm demeanor quickly turning into a more stressed one. Of course, as he searches his pockets, the waiter merely takes on a rather annoyed look, which doesn't seems to improve with the frenchman's apologies.

Jennifer looks up and smiles, watching the Frenchman stew in his hot water a bit. She found the situation mildly amusing, mostly because of the foreigner's reaction to it than from his actual misfortune.
Should his wallet not turn up, she'll step in for a rescue, informing the waiter that she'd pay for the man's meal, smiling over at him a bit. It was a good thing that she hadn't been very hungry...

Unfortunately for him, Cyril isn't able to find his wallet. Fortunately, though, as Jennifer comes to his help, he strikes a grateful (if a bit ashamed at requiring the help for such a simple thing) smile.
"Thanks a lot..." he begins in his french accented english, ".. I feel so silly. I must have forgotten my wallet at home. Probably at my desk or something." he continues, passing an hand over the back of his head, in a most uneasy fashion at his predicament.

Jennifer gives Cyril a dismissive wave.
"Don't worry about it.", she says, choosing her words carefully, since she isn't certain just what the man's grasp of the English language is.
"Are you visiting, or do you live here?"

Cyril pauses a bit, still gathering his bearings. Though he doesn't waste too much times in replying. "Ah, I live around here, yes. Though not since long. I work at the French embassy only as of recently."

Jennifer smiles.
"Oh cool. I'm only recently come here myself, though from elsewhere in the states. Has the Embassy work been treating you well?"
She turns around in her seat to get a better look at him.

"Oh, it has. It's, not that hard I guess. Though it was a good occasion to see new skies and such, you know, get away from known grounds and into places you've never been." he says with a dismissive shrug, easing back into a more calm mood now that the "wallet issue" is over.
"That and some new possibilities."

Jennifer nods. "New possibilities are always good to have. Things can tend to even out if you stay in one place for too long." She grins.
"I came here because there were more opportunities for me than where I lived originally. Back in Missouri."

"Heh, they sure do." he say with a bit of a smile too. At least his english is okay despite his slight accent.
"Well, as for me, the job was mostly offered to me, so it was more a case of me accepting or refusing."

"I see.", Jennifer says. "And where did you work before you got picked up by the Embassy, if I may ask?"
She smiles over at Cyril. He was foreign, she could definately tell. His English was good though; he had either studied prior to coming here, or had been here long enough to learn enough to get by. She wasn't sure how it all worked, but she guessed that he must have held some kind of government position if the Embassy had made him an offer.

The frenchman simply shrug. "Foreign relations departments of France. How else do you think I made if as a worker at the embassy? It's mostly the same job I'm doing as a pencil pusher, except I do it here in New York instead of back in France."
